Safety Precautions for Extrusion Machines
Operating an extrusion machine involves high temperatures, high pressures, and complex mechanical movements; therefore, strict adherence to safety protocols is essential for ensuring personal safety and stable equipment operation. The following are four core safety precautions that must be observed when operating an extrusion machine:
1. Strict Personnel Qualifications and Protective Equipment
Only personnel who have undergone professional training and passed the required assessments are permitted to operate the extrusion machine. Before commencing work, operators must correctly wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including goggles to protect against melt splashes, heat-resistant gloves, and impact-resistant safety shoes. Furthermore, wearing loose clothing, jewelry, or having long hair loose while near the equipment is strictly prohibited to prevent entanglement in moving parts, which could result in severe personal injury.
2. Comprehensive Pre-start Safety Inspection
A thorough inspection of the extrusion machine is mandatory before startup. Verify that all safety guards, interlock devices, and emergency stop buttons are intact and functional; unauthorized removal or bypassing of safety devices is strictly forbidden. Simultaneously, check that electrical circuits are properly grounded and that auxiliary systems-such as cooling water and lubrication-are functioning correctly. Clear any debris from the hopper and surrounding area to ensure the equipment is free of potential hazards before applying power for preheating.
3. Standardized Operation and Monitoring During Running
Operators must remain focused while the equipment is running and are strictly prohibited from inserting hands or other body parts into hazardous areas such as the feed hopper, die head, or haul-off and cutting units. Temperature, pressure, and screw speed must be controlled strictly according to process specifications to avoid machine overload. Constantly monitor the equipment for abnormal noises, excessive vibration, or unusual odors; if temperature or pressure readings exceed normal ranges, take immediate corrective action to prevent accidents caused by material decomposition or equipment damage.
4. Shutdown, Power Disconnection, and Emergency Response
Familiarity with emergency response procedures is crucial. In the event of emergencies such as material jams, fires, or personnel entrapment, the emergency stop button must be pressed immediately to cut off power. When cleaning the equipment, changing molds, or performing internal maintenance, strictly adhere to "shutdown, power disconnection, and lockout/tagout" procedures. Wait for high-temperature components to cool completely before proceeding; performing maintenance while the equipment is energized, pressurized, or hot is strictly prohibited.
